Sync convenience, operational burden, and who can reach your ciphertext all differ.

No universal winner

Pick for your threat model and willingness to run infrastructure. A local vault is not automatically safer if backups are weak; a hosted vault is not automatically worse if encryption and trust boundaries are clear. No product wins every scenario.
